Undergraduate TCDconnect users switched to enhanced internet access service

On Tuesday 3rd April between 8am and 9am all undergraduate users of the TCDconnect service were switched to using an enhanced method of accessing internet resources through the College proxy server. This live rollout has provided improvements in performance, such as in streaming audio and video, along with the major benefit of not having to authenticate in each application requiring internet access.

In the weeks leading up to this change for undergraduates IS Services had successfully introduced the enhanced service firstly to a test group of postgraduates using TCDconnect; then in selected College computer rooms; then all postgraduates on TCDconnect and subsequently to all staff on the staff wireless network.

Some teething problems on the day of 3rd April affected internet access for a limited number of users and these issues were resolved on the day. IS Services would like to apologise to those affected and we recognise that the loss of internet services at this time of the year is at the very least a major inconvenience.
