Removal of Windows XP from the College network

As a result of Microsoft discontinuing support of Windows XP, IS Services are now in process of removing all Windows XP computers connected to the College network in offices and labs and on the staff wireless network.

This means that no new connections will be accepted for Windows XP after 31st May 2013.  Existing Windows XP systems will be fully removed from the College network by 31st December 2013.

If you are operating Windows XP, please keep an eye out for an email from the IS Services Helpdesk, during the last week of June, which will outline the necessary actions for upgrading or replacing your computer.

Please note that postgrads on the TCDconnect service with Windows XP on their personal computers will not be affected by this change.

Latest development to the Research Support System

The Research Support System is a TCD Web Systems application which facilitates monitoring and support of research activity within college including: researcher profiles, research projects, publications and other research outputs, generation of college calendar, generation of research related reports, interfacing with other internal systems including TARA, the institutional repository, import of publication metadata from external databases, maintenance of the TCD strategic research themes, provision of data to the research website, media directory of experts, e-theses and RQM.

The research themes control panel on the RSS has been redesigned to allow users to associate their research projects with the TCD strategic research themes.  It is also now possible to apply a subset of the personal themes to a set of publications and other research outputs or projects.

Notice for staff and postgrads running Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4, 10.5

We are writing to notify you of an upcoming change that will affect those connected to the College network with Mac computers running Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5 in offices and labs or on the staff wireless network.

As Apple has discontinued support for certain older versions of Mac OS X, IS Services has expanded available support for newer Apple operating systems, and is in process of greatly reducing the available support for the older versions listed above.

From 31st August 2013, IS Services will no longer be able to provide full support or accept new network connections for these versions of Mac OS X.

If your computer is running one of these older versions, then please visit our FAQ for advice on what to do in relation to upgrading or replacing your Apple Mac.  Please also note that the IS Services Helpdesk is always on-hand for anyone seeking additional advice.
