USB-to-Ethernet adapters for staff with lightweight/slimline laptops

If you purchase a lightweight/slimline laptop for use in College offices and labs, it is worth noting that they often ship with a wireless network card only.  However, there are a number of reasons that you may need to connect your laptop to the College wired network and so for these wireless-only devices you will need to purchase a USB-to-Ethernet adapter from one of the approved College suppliers.  For further information please see our new web page acting as a guide to using USB-to-Ethernet adapters.

End of support for Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 & 10.5 in College offices & labs

Back in June we highlighted an upcoming change in the support we provide for those with Mac computers running Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5 in offices and labs or on the staff wireless network.

As Apple has discontinued support for certain older versions of Mac OS X, IS Services has expanded available support for newer Apple operating systems, and is in process of greatly reducing the available support for the older versions listed above.

From 31st August 2013, IS Services are no longer able to provide full support or accept new network connections for these versions of Mac OS X.

If your computer is running one of these older versions, then please visit our FAQ for advice on what to do in relation to upgrading or replacing your Apple Mac.  Please also note that the IS Services Helpdesk is always on-hand for anyone seeking additional advice.
